A client of mine called me in a panic because she had a disturbing dream in which she was diagnosed with cancer on her arm. In her dream she went to bed with a healthy arm and when she awoke a mole on her arm had swollen to the size of a golf ball. She went to the doctor who told her that he needed to remove half of her arm all the way up to her upper arm and that she needed to do chemo and radiation to make sure the cancer wouldn't grow back.
She agreed to have the cancer cut out but refused to do chemo and radiation.
This was a significant decision for many reasons for her. She had been in a relationship so intense, those close to them called it a relationship of many lifetimes. Indeed, their connection had been unprecedented by many. Unfortunately, the man with whom she was involved with, had many flaws (or shall we say 'red flags') that she wasn't willing to overlook. He lied, he cheated, he did steroids, he had hit every other woman before her, he was terrible with money, and so on. She wasn't willing to overlook these red flags and ended the relationship more than a year ago.
However, for some reason she wasn't able to move on. She wasn't able to date anyone else and she simply couldn't stop thinking about him. She felt as though the death of their relationship cost her her femininity (thus her left arm was affected). Their connection was so great, that she felt him wherever he went, even long after their break up she would be able to 'feel him' and his presence and was able to 'read' and 'hear' his thoughts.
Would she want him back?, I asked her, and the answer was very clear: absolutely not! So why was it so difficult for her to let him go, knowing that she'd never take him back anyway? It was as if she was haunted by their connection. Even cord cutting, rituals, praying, exorcism and meditating didn't help.
Yet there he was, manifested in her dream as a cancer, something that needed to be cut out and treated. The doctor told her that she not only needed to cut out the cancer (him) but that she needed treatment (chemo and radiation) to assure that it (he) won't come back to haunt her.
Her response to the doctor was interesting: "You can cut out the cancer ('the man') but if that doesn't do it and the cancer grows back then I'm meant to die."
What is she really saying to her higher self ?
She is saying that she is finally willing to have this guy cut out of her life and her mind, once and for all, and that she needs outside help in order to do so. She is also saying that she's not willing to destroy her body otherwise in order to assure that he won't return, and that she has faith that once he's cut out and cut off, that he won't return. She is saying that she's not willing to continue dragging his spirit along only so she can suffer by a weak body and immune system (by refusing ongoing treatment).
It's her own willingness to let go and take drastic measures and her confidence in doing so that finally sets herself free!
